Biological substance category A (infectious substance, UN2814) and Biological substance category B (diagnostic specimens, UN3373) must be packed according special regulation for road transport (ADR) and air transport (IATA).

Diagnostic specimens classified as UN 3373 must be packed according packing instruction 650. This instruction speaks about the strength of the packaging, leakproofness (95 kPa) and required absorbent material.

The available packaging for diagnostic specimens varies from small mail packaging up to bulk packaging.
